The cabinet on Tuesday approved the setting up of the office for prevention and suppression of information technology offences, particularly against the monarchy, deputy government spokesman Vachara Kannikar said.

The spokesman said the office is to be set up in one month, instead of six to seven months as normally required, so that it could be in operation as soon as possible.

The office is responsible for protecting the monarchy which is the centre of national spirit, unity and security and prevent acts of lese majeste with information technology.

Mr Vachara said Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva also order the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to specially monitor various websites and invite all of their operators and others concerned to meet and seek their cooperation in the government’s national reconciliation policy.
